Wausaukee is a great place to live and visit in mid-Marinette County. Surrounded by the Menominee River, Peshtigo River Flowage, Governor Thompson State Park, Lake Nocquebay and numerous lakes, streams and waterfalls, Wausaukee is prime hunting, fishing and recreation land. Take a walk in the village and visit the Mid-County Library to browse the books or the web. The library is busier than ever in its new home. The Land of Oz Museum has an impressive col-lection of Wizard of Oz memorabilia. The village has a rich his-tory dating back to the 1880’s that is still in the making. The village has opened a number of ATV Routes that connect with routes in the Town of Wausaukee and then to surrounding municipalities which has proved popular. Evergreen Park has pavilions for groups, a campground, walk-ing trails along the Wausaukee River that borders the park on the south and tennis court and basketball hoop. The river is a Class II trout stream for you fishermen and women. The Wausaukee Recreation Association is developing the Steve Stumbris Jr. Memorial Park. A playscape and waterpark are among a number of improvements planned in the future to go with the two ball fields. Wausaukee High School’s partnership with NWTC continues to grow with a nursing assistant program this year and future plans call for electrical programs. The annual 4th of July Celebration means food, entertainment, a 5K run/walk and crafts throughout the day put on by local non-profit groups & businesses. Wausaukee dresses up for the Fall Festival each October that brings dozens of vendors and hun-dreds of visitors. Fall means deer gun season in Wisconsin and Wausaukee is in the midst of deer fever as people from all over the state con-verge on the north woods looking for that elusive trophy buck. Soon after, as ice covers waterways, shanties begin to dot lakes and rivers as young and old get out to ice fish with family and friends throughout the winter. Winter storms keep snowmobiling thriving in Wausaukee with an extensive trail system that connects you to the rest of the county and beyond.
